Privacy Policy

Overview

Murine Launcher is a free and open-source Android home screen launcher. It is designed to operate entirely offline and does not collect, transmit, or share any personal data whatsoever.

This privacy policy explains what information the app accesses, how it is used, and your rights as a user.

Data Collection

Murine Launcher does not collect any data. Specifically:

  • No personal information is collected, stored, or transmitted.
  • No analytics or telemetry of any kind are included.
  • No advertising SDKs or tracking libraries are bundled.
  • No network requests are made by the app. Murine Launcher has no internet access permission.
  • No crash reports are sent automatically.

Permissions

Murine Launcher requests only the minimal permissions strictly necessary to function as a home screen launcher:

  • Wallpaper hints - tells Android what size your wallpaper should be, so it fits your home screen. Murine Launcher never changes your wallpaper; the Wallpapers option opens Android’s own picker.
  • App list access - lets Murine Launcher see all installed apps, so they can appear in the app drawer and in search. The list is only used to display your apps and never leaves your device.
  • Bind widget - lets Murine Launcher place widgets on your home screen. Android may ask you to confirm the first time you add a widget from a given app.
  • Uninstall apps - lets you uninstall apps directly from the launcher. Android always asks you to confirm before an app is removed.
  • Notification access - optional, used only to show notification dots on app icons. Murine Launcher never stores or displays your notifications; it only keeps, in memory, which apps have notifications and how many.
  • Private Space access - lets Murine Launcher show your Private Space and its apps, and lock or unlock it from the app drawer. Available on Android 15 and above.
  • App Lock - lets you lock apps from the launcher, on Android 17 and above. The lock is handled by Android itself; Murine Launcher never sees your PIN, password, or biometrics.

No permission is requested for internet access, location, camera, microphone, contacts, storage of personal files, or any other sensitive data.

Local Data

Murine Launcher stores the following data locally on your device only, and never transmits it elsewhere:

  • Your home screen layout (icon positions, folders, widgets).
  • Launcher preferences and settings.
  • Cached app icons and labels for performance.

All data is stored in the app’s internal storage, accessible only by the app itself and not by other applications. No data is written to shared storage (such as Photos, Documents, or Downloads). This data is automatically deleted if you uninstall the app.

As Murine Launcher does not collect, store, or process any personal data, rights granted under privacy regulations such as the GDPR (EU), CCPA (California), and similar frameworks - including the right to Access, Rectification, Erasure, and Data Portability - are inherently satisfied, as there is no personal data to manage.

Third-Party Services

Murine Launcher does not integrate with or send data to any third-party services, servers, or APIs.

Children’s Privacy

Murine Launcher does not collect any data from anyone, including children under the age of 13. The app is safe for users of all ages.

Changes to This Policy

We believe that your device is yours, and your data should stay on it. This is not a temporary stance or a feature that may be removed in a future update. It is a foundational design decision.

If this privacy policy is ever updated, the changes will be reflected on this page with a new effective date. Any update will be driven by legal or regulatory requirements that we can stand behind, not by a change in the app’s privacy-respecting behavior. The app will not be modified to introduce data collection, tracking, or unsolicited network communication of any kind. Any network functionality, if ever introduced, would only occur at the explicit and informed initiative of the user.
